Revelation 21:8 in the KJV says, "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
My question is, who is "the fearful" at the beginning of the verse referring to? I don't think I've ever heard any Bible teachers comment on this. I know most modern translations render this as "cowards" or the "cowardly." Dr. Bob Wilkin I think does a great job of dealing with this awesome verse at the GES web site here: http://www.faithalone.org/news/y1993/93sep3.html
But I'd still like to hear what my brothers & sisters in Christ here have to say about this. Thank you for any insight. May the Lord bless you!

David,
thanks for the link to this article by Bob. I have read many dozens of the articles on the GES website. But I had yet to read this one. Very good synopsis distinguishing between the free gift, the rewards, and the unsaved.

David,
Simple answer.
There are two classes of people, the saved and unsaved. Saved go to an eternity with our Savior, the unsaved ultimately to the Lake of Fire. Those spoken of in this verse are unsaved (and never were).
Philip. 3:9
"And be found in Him [Christ], not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:"
So because I am "in Christ," I am clothed in His righteousness, and that (once and for all) is the only basis for my eternity with Him. Once saved, NEVER to be lost!
In Christ eternally,
ExP(Jack)
